The course requirements described here apply to persons who commenced their candidature after 1 January, 2013 and persons who commenced their candidature prior to 1 January, 2013 who elect to proceed under 2013 resolutions.
Candidates who commenced prior to 1 January, 2013 may complete the requirements in accordance with the resolutions in force at the time of their commencement, provided that requirements are completed by 1 January, 2018, or later date as the Faculty may, in special circumstances, approve.

| Requirements: | This course outline should be read in conjunction with the Handbook for the Bachelor of Engineering: http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/engineering/undergraduate/b_engineering.shtml Candidates are required to complete 192 credit points made up as follows: (a) 144 credit points of core Civil Units. and (b) at least 18 credit points of 3rd year Civil electives, and (c) at least 18 credit points of 4th year Civil electives, and (d) no more than 12 credit points of "Additional Electives" Additional Electives Candidates must complete 12 credit points of additional elective units of study. These are also called "free electives". They may be any combination of units from any of the Second Year, Third Year or Fourth Year Civil electives, AND/OR from units of study in other Faculties subject to approval from the Director of the Learning and Teaching; Civil Engineering. The list of pre-approved free electives is at: http://sydney.edu.au/engineering/civil/current/undergraduate/electives.shtml#free Choice of electives will depend upon subject availability, timetabling and prerequisite conditions. Civil Engineering Specialisation Stream Geotechnical Engineering Specialisation in the BE (Civil) degree is available to exceptional students who meet certain progress requirements ( http://sydney.edu.au/engineering/civil/current/undergraduate/streams.shtml ). To satisfy the specialisation criteria students must complete at least 3 electives from the Geotechnical Engineering Stream listed below and undertake an Honours Thesis or Engineering Project in a related topic. 3rd Year: (Compulsory): CIVL3411 4th year: Choose at least 2 of: CIVL5351, CIVL5458 or CIVL5452 (In order to satisfy the requirements for specialisation in Combined degrees the candidate may need to complete more than 240 credit points.) Other Notes Students in the Honours program must enrol in CIVL4022 & CIVL4023; students in the Pass Program must enrol in CIVL4024 & CIVL4025. With special permission from the Director of the Learning and Teaching; Civil Engineering; it is possible to take Thesis or Project A in Semester 2 and Thesis or Project B in Semester 1. CIVL0011; CIVL0012; CIVL0013; CIVL0014; CIVL0015; CIVL0016; CIVL0017 AND CIVL0018 are available for international exchange study programs. Most Mathematics; Chemistry; Physics and Computer Science units of study offered by the Faculty of Science can be replaced by an equivalent advanced level units of study subject to prerequisite conditions (as required by the Faculty of Science) being met. |
