Candidates are required to complete 192 credit points made up as follows:

(a) 144 credit points of core Civil Units.

and

(b) at least 18 credit points of 3rd year Civil electives,

and

(c) at least 18 credit points of 4th year Civil electives,

and

(d) no more than 12 credit points of "Additional Electives"

Candidates are required to achieve a minimum academic level as described in the Engineering Handbook: http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/engineering/ . Students not meeting this requirement will be awarded the PASS degree Bachelor of Engineering.

Additional Electives

Candidates must complete 12 credit points of additional elective units of study. These are also called "free electives". They may be any combination of units from any of the Second Year, Third Year or Fourth Year Civil electives, AND/OR from units of study in other Faculties subject to approval from the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Civil Engineering.

Choice of electives will depend upon subject availability, timetabling and prerequisite conditions.

Civil Engineering Specialisation Stream Environmental Engineering

Specialisation in the BE (Civil) degree is available to exceptional students who meet certain progress requirements. To satisfy the specialisation criteria students must be enrolled in the stream and complete at least 3 electives from the Environmental Engineering Stream listed below and undertake an Honours Thesis in a related topic:

3rd year (Compulsory): CIVL3614

4th year Choose at least 2 of: CIVL5351, CIVL5668 and CIVL5670

(In order to satisfy the requirements for specialisation in Combined degrees the candidate may need to complete more than 240 credit points.)

Other Notes

With special permission from the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Civil Engineering, it is possible to take Thesis A in Semester 2 and Thesis B in Semester 1.

CIVL0011; CIVL0012; CIVL0013; CIVL0014; CIVL0015; CIVL0016; CIVL0017 AND CIVL0018 are available for international exchange study programs.

Most Mathematics; Chemistry; Physics and Computer Science units of study offered by the Faculty of Science can be replaced by an equivalent advanced level units of study subject to prerequisite conditions (as required by the Faculty of Science) being met.
