2. Requirements

To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology, a candidate must successfully complete 144 credit points, comprising:

(a) at least 114 credit points from core and recommended elective units;

(b) 18 credit points of selected Mathematics and Statistics units, with at least six credit points at 2000-level or above;

(c) a maximum of 30 credit points of elective units of study;

(d) units required for either a Computer Science stream or an Information Systems stream, as shown in the units of study tables for this course;

(e) and ensuring (i) no more than 72 credit points in junior (1000-level) units of study; and (ii) at least 42 credit points in 3000-level or above.

Advanced degree

To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology (Advanced), a candidate must successfully complete 144 credit points specified for the Bachelor of Computer Science and Technology above, with the following additional requirements:

(a) a minimum of 12 credit points of 2000-level core and recommended elective units are at the Advanced level; and

(b) a minimum of 12 credit points of 3000-level core and recommended elective units are at the Advanced level.

Streams

Completion of a stream is a requirement of the course. Candidates have the option of completing up to two streams. Candidates must follow the progression of study as prescribed by the table of units of study for the stream. Units of study counted towards one stream may not count toward any other stream completed. The streams available are: (a) Computer Science and (b) Information Systems.

3. Semesters

Note: Continuing students should note that 2015 BCST (Advanced) tables shown here differs from previous years by bringing the Computer Science and Informations Systems streams together, rather than treating as separate courses. The merging of the stream details was done to to make it easier for students to compare the different requirements of each stream, and see where the requirements are the same in both cases. Apart from this change, the BCST (Advanced) remains as it was before.

Note: BCST (Advanced) students must take 42 credit points of Level 3000 units in Year 3: INFO3402 Management of IT Projects and Systems (6 credit points) plus INFO3600 Major Development Project (Advanced) (12 credit points) plus another 24 credit points of Level 3000 Stream and/or Recommended Units, including 18 credit points of units for their specified stream.

- Computer Science stream: INFO3220 (6 credit points) plus 12 credit points from COMP3308, COMP3419, COMP3520, COMP3221 and/or COMP3608.

- Information Systems stream: ISYS3401 (6 credit points) plus 12 credit points from INFO3220, INFO3315, DATA3404, ISYS3402 or INFO3406.

Note: This collection is intended to cover Level 3000 Recommended IT units that are outside of your selected stream (Computer Science or Information Technology. All Level 3000 COMP, INFO, ISYS unit and ELEC units may be selected as Recommended IT Units. Students in BCST (Advanced) may take also take Recommended units from fourth year BIT (including Level 5000 COMP, INFO, ISYS unit and ELEC units), with Special Permission from the School of IT.

Overall, 24 credit points of Level 3000 IT (or above) electives must be taken for the BCST (Advanced), including a minimum of 18 credit points from Level 3000 units in the your selected stream. If you are only doing the minimum number of Level 3000 units within your stream (18 credit points, or three units), you will need to select at least 6 credit points (one extra unit) from the units of study here.
