Brief Handbook Description: The objective of this unit is to provide underpinning knowledge and skills in the application of tools to the project management environment for risk, quality and people management including leading and managing project teams. At the end of this unit, students will be able to understand and apply the tools of team building and project management leadership, as well as apply tools for design and implementation of integrated plans for risk, quality, human resource and procurement. The competency level achieved will enable application of integration tools to a range of simple generic projects as well as provide input to plans for more complex projects. The syllabus comprises team management, project leadership, modern quality management principles and techniques, quality assurance, preparation of quality plans, risk analysis, planning and risk management, as well as linking risk and quality management to human resourcing and procurement methodologies. The use of integrated planning software such as MS Project, Gantt Project and social media tools for project management will be explained and practiced. The definitions and processes of Project Management will largely follow the US based Project Management Institutes, PMBOK as is used in the Australian Institution of Project Management Standards at the level of Certified Practicing Project Manager, (CPPM). Other International standards such as ICPMA's, ICB3.0 standard will also be covered.
Assumed Knowledge: CIVL3805. Students are expected to have understood and applied basic tools for project scope, cost and time management for projects as taught in CIVL3805 or equivalent courses.

T&L Activities: Tutorial: To work through short examples of work explained in the lecture as well as learning assessement skills for teams as they demonstrate project people, risk and quality management.

Project Work - own time: Work in a team environment on a real project as a case study that demonstrates application of the fundamentals of people, leadership, risk, quality, and procurement strategies. Students will select as a team a project that generates value for themselves or a client to practise skills in management. Students will be required to prepare group presentations and conduct self and team assessements.

Independent Study: Review of learning materials, and management of self directed learning as a project. Individul work includes; reflection on application of course material and team resources to management of, people, leadership, risk, quality and procurement to the teams selected case study as well as to the students personal learning project.

(7) Project and Team Skills (Level 3)
1. Identify risk, human resources and quality requirements and standards, prepare plans monitor and control in a real project environment
2. Asses quality and design assurance processes based on customer requirements. Assess performance of suppliers and project managers and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
3. Understand the dynamics of people performance reward/management.
4. Use risk management tools & techniques to identify, assess, evaluate, & prioritise risks.
5. Establish risk management plans, policies & integrate them with other project plans within the organisation & align them to the business case.
6. Track, monitor & control risks & actions to achieve project objectives & the business case and to close risks for an optimal outcome.
7. Identify procurement needs, design procurement processes that are integrated with risk and quality requirements, monitor and control contacts understand and manage contractual issues and finalise contracts, in a real project environment.
8. Understand the challenges and dynamics of effective team management in project environments.
