| Brief Handbook Description: | Projects need to be set up to succeed from the start. This includes careful consideration of the purpose of the project and how this breaks down through work, deliverables and responsibility. This Unit of Study addresses the techniques required to design a successful project. It provides the foundation for more detailed planning and execution. Upon completion of this course, students will develop thinking and listening skills, while demonstrating initiative and drive to achieve project related outcomes. |

| Assessment Description: |
1) Individual Assignment - Develop a WBS for a separate given project and discuss the approach chosen, advantages and disadvantages. 2) Individual Assignment - Analyse project risks and opportunities (high level), assess the probability and impact and develop response plans to address. Discuss reliability of risk management process. 3) Group Assignment - Discuss evolution of projects (business case or no business case). Students to analyze different projects and explain their evolution (develop video resource). Groups to search and critique business case examples found online to elucidate the key principles underlying construction of an effective business case for a project. 4) Group Presentation - Groups to discuss procurement strategy (high level – to be covered in detail in Legal Aspects of Projects) identifying what resources need to be obtained and barriers/risks/opportunities associated with obtaining the necessary resources. |
