To qualify for the combined BE(Civil)/LLB degree the candidate is required to complete 288 credit points comprising:

(a) 144 credit points of CORE Civil units,

and

(b) 96 credit points of compulsory Law units,

and

(c) 48 credit points of elective Law units.

Civil Engineering Specialisation Streams

Specialisation stream in the BE (Civil) degree is available to exceptional students who meet certain progress requirements ( http://sydney.edu.au/engineering/civil/current/undergraduate/streams.shtml ).

To satisfy the specialisation criteria students must complete at least 3 Civil electives from the relevant specialiastion stream listed below and undertake an Honours Thesis or Engineering Project in a related topic.

(i) Structural Engineering Stream: CIVL3235; CIVL5266; CIVL5269; CIVL5458

(ii) Environmental Engineering Stream: CIVL3614; CIVL5351; CIVL5668; CIVL5670

(iii) Geotechnical Engineering Stream: CIVL3411; CIVL5351; CIVL5452; CIVL5458

(iv) Construction Engineering and Management Stream: CIVL3805, CIVL4815, CIVL3813, CIVL4810 and CIVL4814

In order to satisfy the requirements for specialisation the candidate may need to complete more than 288 credit points.

"Free" Electives

There are no free electives available in this degree.

Other Notes

Students in the Honours program must enrol in CIVL4022 & CIVL4023; students in the Pass Program must enrol in CIVL4024 & CIVL4025.

With special permission from the Director of the Learning and Teaching; Civil Engineering; it is possible to take Thesis or Project A in Semester 2 and Thesis or Project B in Semester 1.

Most Mathematics; Chemistry; Physics and Computer Science units of study offered by the Faculty of Science can be replaced by an equivalent advanced level units of study subject to prerequisite conditions (as required by the Faculty of Science) being met.

Overloaded Semesters

Students are required to complete 30 CP in 1st semester in both years 1 and 2.

Students are required to complete only 18 CP in 2nd semester in both years 4 and 5 .

If students feel they cannot attempt 30 CP in a semester they may consider doing some units in Summer School or Winter School (recommended ENGG1801 and LAWS1015).

If, however, such students are further unable to enrol in summer school they are advised to discuss possible alternative enrolment programs with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Civil Engineering.
