Faculty of Engineering

Software / Science (2015)

Note: This course version applies only to students first enrolling in 2015.
WARNING: This course version is currently under review and is subject to change.

1. Overview

Course: Software / Science (2015)
CP Required: 240
Min FT Duration: 5.00 Years
Min PT Duration: N/A
Faculty/School: Faculty of Engineering
Years Offered: 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015

2. Requirements

To qualify for the award of a combined Engineering/Science degree a student shall complete units of study to a total value of at least 240 credit points including:

* 96 credit points from science subject areas

* units of study as prescribed in the BE Specialisation Requirement tables for the specialisation that the student is pursuing, and

* a major in a science area.

Science Major

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science component of the degree include a major in a Science subject area. A major requires the completion of 24 senior credit points chosen from units of study listed in the table for that major (except for a Psychology major which requires 48 credit points across Intermediate and Senior units of study. For available majors and relevant units, see List of Science Majors in the Faculty of Science Handbook at: http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/science/

Engineering Honours Requirement

Candidates are required to achieve a minimum HWAM (Honours Weighted Average Mark) of 65% to qualify for the Honours degree. Students who satisfy all requirements for graduation except the HWAM required for honours will be awarded the PASS degree Bachelor of Engineering.

Advanced Science degree options

The Bachelor of Science is available in two advanced streams:

(i) Bachelor of Science Advanced

(iii) Bachelor of Science Advanced Mathematics

See the Faculty of Science at http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/science/ for the requirements of each stream.

Advanced units in Maths and Science

Most units of study offered by the Faculty of Science can be replaced by an equivalent advanced level units of study subject to prerequisite conditions (set by the Faculty of Science) being met. The student does not necessarily need to be enrolled in an advanced science degree to study these units. Students considering doing advanced options should seek advice from their department before enrolling.

Exchange Units

Students undertaking Study Abroad in a particular year of their degree must enrol in the appropriate International Exchange Program units of study as an alternative to a semester's standard units.

NOTE: This course outline should be read in conjunction with the course rules specified in the relevant faculty handbooks at http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/
