Years Offered: 2025, 2024, 2023

2. Requirements

In summary the requirements are:

Students must complete a total of 312 credit points as follows:

Bachelor of Engineering Honours (168 credit points):

► a minimum of 18 credit points from the Engineering Foundations Table, including all required units;

► a minimum 30 credit points from the Engineering Projects Table, including all required units; and

► a minimum of 120 credit points from the Engineering Stream Table for the stream being undertaken, including all required units; and

► candidates must successfully complete the requirements of the Professional Engagement Program.

Bachelor of Laws (144 credit points):

► 102 credit points of compulsory units of study, including 48 credit points of 1000-level Law core units taken during the first 4.5 years of the degree whilst undertaking the Bachelor of Engineering Honours; and

► 42 credit points of elective units of study, of which a maximum of 36 credit points are taken from Part 1 and a minimum of 6 credit points are taken from Part 2.

► Students may apply to take up to a maximum of 24 credit points of LAWS6000/JURS6000 units of study as elective units of study:

► enrolment in LAWS6000/JURS6000 units of study will be subject to availability and any unit pre-requisites or assumed knowledge, which may include relevant industry experience or prior specialist study.

► enrolment in LAWS6000/JURS6000 units is only permitted after a candidate has completed 96 credit points towards the Bachelor of Laws.

► students may only enrol in LAWS6000/JURS6000 units listed in the Bachelor of Laws Elective units of study Table.

Advanced units in Maths and Science

Most units of study offered by the Science Faculty on the list of core requirements can be replaced by an equivalent advanced level unit; subject to prerequisite conditions (as required by the Faculty of Science) being met. Students considering doing advanced options should seek advice from their school before enrolling.

Study Abroad

Students undertaking Study Abroad in a particular year of their degree must enrol in the appropriate International Exchange Program units of study as an alternative to a semester`s standard units.

Permission from the relevant Head of School must be sought prior to enrolling in exchange units of study.

3. Semesters

Year 1 - Semester 1

Type CP CP From
3 Select from MATH1002: Linear Algebra
3 Select from MATH1021: Calculus of One Variable
6 Select from ENGF1112: Introduction to Engineering B
6 Select from ENGG1800: Introduction to Engineering A

Note: Candidates take ENGG1800 to help decide which direction to take. This unit will count as the core Project 1 unit for any engineering stream.
0 Select from ENGP1001: Professional Engagement Program 1A

Note: All students must enrol in ENGP1001 in their first semester of enrolment.
6 Select from LAWS1006: Foundations of Law

Note: MATH1021 and MATH1002 may be replaced by advanced units MATH1921 and MATH1902, subject to prerequisite conditions being met. Students should seek advice from their school before enrolling.

Flexible first year students starting in 2023 will take ENGF1112 in place of ENGG2112 Multi-disciplinary Engineering. This will give students space in Year 2 to catch up on their selected stream.

Students choose a stream of engineering to undertake at the end of Semester 1. In Semester 2 they then follow the program for that particular engineering stream.

Year 1 - Semester 2

Type CP CP From
3 Select from MATH1023: Multivariable Calculus and Modelling
3 Select from MATH1005: Statistical Thinking with Data
6 Select from ENGF1661: Flexible First Year Enrolment 1
6 Select from ENGF1662: Flexible First Year Enrolment 2
0 Select from ENGP1002: Professional Engagement Program 1B
0 Select from LAWS1024: Legal Research
6 Select from LAWS1012: Torts

Note: MATH1023 and MATH1005 may be replaced by advanced units MATH1923 and MATH1905.

This semester's units should only be used as a temporary enrolment. At the end of Semester 1 you should select your stream and change your unit selection to the appropriate units for that stream. Note that the MATH units should be taken regardless of which stream is selected.
