The course requirements described here apply to persons who commenced their candidature after 1 January, 2011 and persons who commenced their candidature prior to 1 January, 2011 who elect to proceed under 2011 resolutions.
Candidates who commenced prior to 1 January, 2011 may complete the requirements in accordance with the resolutions in force at the time of their commencement, provided that requirements are completed by 1 January, 2016, or later date as the faculty may, in special circumstances, approve.
Candidates who first commenced in 2011, and are re-enrolling for 2012 or later, should be aware that there may have been changes in units of study offered since, Check that units are still available by clicking the unit of study link in the course table. Requirements: | This course outline should be read in conjunction with the Handbook for the Bachelor of Engineering: http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/engineering/ To qualify for the award of a combined Civil Engineering/Arts degree a candidate must complete units of study to a total value of at least 240 credit points including: (a) 144 credit points of CORE Civil units, and (b) at least 84 credit points of units of study given by the Faculty of Arts for the BE/BA, with at least 54 credit points at 2nd or 3rd year level, and the completion of an Arts major, as outlined in the handbook: http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/arts/ and (c) 12 credit points Civil Engineering Elective units. Civil Engineering Specialisation Specialisation in the BE (Civil) degree is available to exceptional students who meet certain progress requirements To satisfy the specialisation criteria students must complete at least 3 electives from the relevant specialisation listed below and undertake an Honours Thesis or Engineering Project in a related topic. (i) Structural Engineering Specialisation: CIVL3235; CIVL5266; CIVL5269; CIVL5458 (ii) Environmental Engineering Specialisation: CIVL3614; CIVL5351; CIVL5668; CIVL5670 (iii) Geotechnical Engineering Specialisation: CIVL3411; CIVL5351; CIVL5452; CIVL5458; (CIVL5453 will replace CIVL5452 in 2015) (iv) Construction Engineering and Management Specialisation: CIVL3805, CIVL4815, CIVL3813, CIVL4810 and CIVL4814 In order to satisfy the requirements for specialisation the candidate may need to complete more than 240 credit points. Additional Electives There are no general electives in this degree. The 12 cp of additional electives must be Civil elective subjects. Additional electives can be obtained from any of the Second Year, Third Year or Fourth Year Civil electives. Choice of electives will depend upon subject availability, timetabling and prerequisite conditions. Other Notes Students in the Honours program must enrol in CIVL4022 & CIVL4023; students in the Pass Program must enrol in CIVL4024 & CIVL4025. With special permission from the Director of Undergraduate Studies Civil Engineering it is possible to take Thesis or Project A in Semester 2 and Thesis or Project B in Semester 1. Most Mathematics; Chemistry; Physics and Computer Science units of study offered by the Faculty of Science can be replaced by an equivalent advanced level units of study subject to prerequisite conditions (as required by the Faculty of Science) being met. |
