Course: Civil / Commerce (2015)
CP Required: 240
Min FT Duration: 5.00 Years
Min PT Duration: N/A
Faculty/School: Faculty of Engineering
Years Offered: 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015
Requirements: To be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce combined degree, students must complete units of study with a total value of 240 credit points, comprising units of study required for the Bachelor of Engineering’s specialisation and a minimum of 96 credit points in units of study from the Faculty of Economics and Business. The 96 credit points from the Faculty of Economics and Business must include:

• core Bachelor of Commerce units as set out in the Faculty of Economics and Business handbook.

• a major selected from the `Bachelor of Commerce subject areas for majors and electives`

• a minimum of 48 credit points in senior (2000 and 3000 level) units of study)

Alternative Maths and Physics units

The Mathematics and Physics core units of study may be replaced by equivalent advanced level units of study (if available) subject to prerequisite conditions being met.

Civil Engineering Specialisations

Specialist Civil Engineering streams (Structures, Geotechnical, Construction Management, or Environmental) require additional units (listed below) outside those specified for Civil Engineering combined degrees. In order to finish a combined degree with a stream, students may need to go beyond usual total of 240 credit points.

The specialist Civil Engineering streams are available to exceptional students who meet certain progress requirements. To satisfy the specialisation criteria students must be enrolled in the stream and complete at least 3 electives from the relevant specialisation listed below and undertake an Honours Thesis or Engineering Project in a related topic.

(i) Structures Specialisation: CIVL3235; CIVL5266; CIVL5269; CIVL5458

(ii) Environmental Specialisation: CIVL3614; CIVL5351; CIVL5668; CIVL5670

(iii) Geotechnical Specialisation: CIVL3411; CIVL5351; CIVL5452; CIVL5458

(iv) Construction Management Specialisation: CIVL3805, CIVL4815, CIVL3813, CIVL4810 and CIVL4814 Students cannot do more than four units from the Construction Engineering and Management stream, even as a free elective. CIVL3813 is a 4th year elective, not 3rd year.

Decisions on whether or not to proceed with a specialisation may be left until second or third year as the required electives are usually taken in the last two years of the degree.

Engineering Final Year

Candidates are required to achieve a minimum academic level as described in the Engineering Handbook: http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/engineering/ . Students not meeting this requirement will be awarded the PASS degree Bachelor of Engineering.

This course outline should be read in conjunction with the Handbook for the Bachelor of Engineering: http://sydney.edu.au/handbooks/engineering/
