2. Requirements

1. Candidates for the degree of Master of Information Technology Management must complete a total of 72 credit points from the units of study set out below, and must fulfill all requirements for their award as defined by the Course Resolutions of the Faculty of Engineering and IT.

2. Candidates commence their enrolment in the Professional Pathway.

3. After completing 24 credit points of coursework students may then select 12 credit points of Professional Pathway Project units (COMP5703 or COMP5707 & COMP5708).

4. After completing 24 credit points of coursework students who achieve Distinction average results or above may be eligible for the Research Pathway subjects with the approval of the Program Director.

5. Students in the Professional Pathway must complete 18 credit points of the Core units of study, a minimum of 18 credit points of the Specialist units of study, a minimum of 12 credit points of the Professional Pathway Project units of study, a maximum of 12 credit points of the Foundation units of study and no credit points from the Research Pathway units of study.

6. Students in the Research Pathway must complete a minimum of 18 credit points of the Core units of study, a minimum of 12 credit points of the Specialist units of study, a minimum of 24 credit points of the Research Pathway units of study, a maximum of 12 credit points of the Foundation units of study and no credit points from the Professional Pathway Project units of study.

7. A maximum of 12 credit points may be selected with the approval of the Program Director from units outside the School of IT (different unit codes than COMP, INFO or ISYS).

8. Enrolment in the Master of Information Technology Management may be either part-time or full-time with a maximum completion time of 6 years.

A candidate for the Master of Information Technology Management must complete 24 credit points from Core, Specialist or Foundation units of study before taking any Project units.

Admission to project and research units of study is subject to availability of supervision and to the approval of the Dean or nominee.

Professional Pathway Project Units - Course Requirements

The minimum requirement for the Professional Pathway is 12 credit points of Information Technology Capstone project units.

Candidates can complete either COMP5707 and COMP5708 (6+6 credit points - two semesters) or COMP5703 (12 credit points - single semester).

Students who choose the Research Pathway will be required to choose a project undertaken in an area related to their chosen major.

COMP5206 Information Technologies and Systems is a pre-requisite for all INFS6xxx units of study.

IT Project Elective Units

A candidate for the Master of Information Technology Management must complete 24 credit points from Core, Specialist or Foundation units of study before taking any Information Technology Project units in the Elective block (COMP5705, COMP5706).

Students will be allowed to take COMP5705 or COMP5706 from the Elective Block in addition to the Information Technology Capstone project (12 CPS - COMP5703 or COMP5707 & COMP5708). However, students are not able to take both COMP5705 and COMP5706. Completion of either does not provide credit towards requirements for the Information Technology Capstone project.

Admission to project units of study is subject to availability of supervision and to the approval of the Dean or nominee.
