6BUSS3500: Integrated Business Applications


Note:  BUSS3500, senior capstone unit for the Commerce component of the combined degree, has been discontinued and will be available for the last time in an intensive February session in 2017. If you have not completed the unit by this time, you must select an additional senior Commerce elective to replace it.

BUSS3500 is the senior capstone unit for the Commerce component of the combined degree since 2011. Combined degree students who commenced study in 2010 or earlier should take BUSS3500 in place of ECOF3001 Business Strategy, the capstone unit for the old pre-2011 Bachelor of Commerce. Combined degree students who began study before 2011 and are having difficulty enrolling in BUSS3500 should seek assistance from the Engineering & IT student office on Level 3 of the Peter Nicol Russell Building (PNR).

Requirements: To be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering(Hons) and Bachelor of Commerce combined degree, students must complete units of study with a total value of 240 credit points, comprising units of study required for the Bachelor of Engineering’s specialisation and a minimum of 96 credit points in units of study from the School of Business. The 96 credit points from the School of Business must include:

• core Bachelor of Commerce units as set out in the Faculty of Economics and Business handbook

• a major selected from the `Bachelor of Commerce subject areas for majors and electives

• a minimum of 48 credit points in senior (2000 and 3000 level) units of study)

Advanced units in Maths and Science

Most units of study offered by the Science Faculty on the list of core requirements can be replaced by an equivalent advanced level unit; subject to prerequisite conditions (as required by the Faculty of Science) being met. Students considering doing advanced options should seek advice from their department before enrolling.

Study Abroad

Students undertaking Study Abroad in a particular year of their degree must enrol in the appropriate International Exchange Program units of study as an alternative to a semester`s standard units.

Engineering Honours

Students who do not achieve the 65% average mark requirement for the BE(Hons) degree will be awarded the PASS degree Bachelor of Engineering.
