A postgraduate major in telecommunications engineering is concerned with the design, planning, commissioning and monitoring of complex telecommunications networks and broadcasting systems. It will cover aspects of theory and application for a broad range of topics including satellite communication systems, mobile and optical networks. You may also engage in areas of study such as wireless engineering, optical communication systems and error control coding.

Biomedical and health informatics is a major related to the areas of information systems, computer science and health care. It is primarily concerned with enhancing health care delivery and patient outcomes through the effective use of and exchange of information. This major helps you to analyse and develop solutions from the biomedical as well as health informatics perspectives. A postgraduate major in biomedical and health informatics will include areas of study such as bioinformatics, information technology in biomedicine, enterprise health care information systems, epidemiology methods and eHealth for health professionals.

A postgraduate major in data management and analytics will provide you with a strong foundation in big data analytics and data science. It will help you build skills and to work with state-of-the-art tools to analyse large amounts of data of a variety of types (big data) to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations and other useful information. Foundational technologies such as database management and business intelligence used for both operational (OLTP) and decision-support (OLAP) purposes will also be covered. You will have the opportunity to engage in areas of study including knowledge discovery and data mining, advanced data models, statistical natural language processing, knowledge management systems and computational statistical methods.

Graduate Opportunities: There are opportunities for graduates with skills in database management systems to work in roles such as database developer, data warehouse expert, or database administrator. Digital media technology has become an indispensable part of our heterogeneous computing and communication environment. A postgraduate major in digital media technology will provide you with knowledge in creating interactive and effective digital media products, including the coding, analysis and manipulation of digital media. It introduces principles and current techniques such as multimedia data acquisition, analysis, processing, compression and management. You may engage in areas of study including multimedia design and authoring, multimedia retrieval, statistical natural language processing, usability engineering, visual analytics and an opportunity to engage in cross-disciplinary learning with architecture and design in the area of design thinking.

Graduate opportunities: Digital media technology is found in industries such as marketing and advertising, and in forms such as websites, newspapers and magazines. Requirements: 1. Candidates for the degree of Master of Information Technology must complete a total of 72 credit points from the units of study set out below, and must fulfill all requirements for their award as defined by the Course Resolutions of the Faculty of Engineering and IT.

2. Candidates commence their enrollment in the Professional Pathway.

3. After completing 24 credit points of coursework, students may then select 12 credit points of Professional Pathway Project units (COMP5703 or COMP5707 & COMP5708).

4. After completing 24 credit points of coursework, students who achieve Distinction average results or above may be eligible for the Research Pathway subjects with the approval of the Program Director.

5. Students in the Professional Pathway must complete 18 credit points of the Core units of study, a minimum of 18 credit points of the Specialist units of study, a minimum of 12 credit points of the Professional Pathway Project units of study, a maximum of 12 credit points of the Foundation units of study and no credit points from the Research Pathway units of study.

6. Students in the Research Pathway must complete a minimum of 18 credit points of the Core units of study, a minimum of 12 credit points of the Specialist units of study, a minimum of 24 credit points of the Research Pathway units of study, a maximum of 12 credit points of the Foundation units of study and no credit points from the Professional Pathway Project units of study.
