Brief Handbook Description: | MATH1002 is designed to provide a thorough preparation for further study in mathematics and statistics. It is a core unit of study providing three of the twelve credit points required by the Faculty of Science as well as a Junior level requirement in the Faculty of Engineering. This unit of study introduces vectors and vector algebra, linear algebra including solutions of linear systems, matrices, determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors. |

Assessment Description: |
Quiz 1. Solving a range of short answer and multiple choice questions on material in the first half of the course Quiz 2. Solving a range of short answer and multiple choice questions on material in the first two thirds of the course Assignment. Solving a range of extended answer questions, providing coherent arguments and explanations and accurate answers. Final exam. Approximately the first third of the exam is answering multiple choice questions. The remainder of the exam is devoted to answering extended long aswer questions. |
